Ian discusses his exile as a person of mixed race during the Apartheid era and his subsequent return to direct theatre, music videos and two award-winning feature films. The daughter of an Afghani father recently returned to his homeland to be the newly-elected Governor of its central bank and a half Afghan/half Sicilian mother, Ariana's first visit to her family's homeland was just after 9/11. As her plane descended into Afghanistan, Ariana's heart told her she was coming home. She has spent the last decade returning frequently to explore the evolution of the country while trying to correct the misperceptions of what it means to be Islamic--both through her music (her debut album is LION OF PANJSHIR produced by DAVID LYNCH) and her filmmaking (her award-winning documentary WE CAME HOME is in the process of being submitted for Oscar consideration).
