Shows » DEPARTURE
Brian Holst brings you DEPARTURE, Southern California's longest electronic & dance radio program, every Saturday night from 7:00 - 11:00 P.M. DEPARTURE, however, is much more than a show featuring music you’d hear at a club or a rave -- in fact, depending upon your idea of club music, you'll seldom find any of it during the show's 4 hours.
DEPARTURE embraces the modern world of dance music and brings it to the FM dial when no one else in the area will, just as KX 93.5 does with alt/indie rock. With the progression of technology & the internet, a new pool of creative minds have access to every tool they need to make music from home. They're creating original works, remixes & re-envisioned classics that blur genre lines and make "dance music" accessible to most everyone. After all, isn't that the point of dance music: to let everyone have fun, and dance?
That's where DEPARTURE steps in. Tune in or stream each week for catchy remixes of KX 93.5 fare such as Parachute, Two Door Cinema Club, Bon Iver & Passion Pit. You'll also hear upbeat remixes from classic names & other genres, such as: James Brown, Simon & Garfunkel, Nina Simone, Fleetwood Mac, the Beastie Boys, TLC, A Tribe Called Quest & even Flo Rida. They're sprinkled in amongst some of the hottest up-and-coming electronic & electropop artists, as well as the occasional remix of mainstream pop songs. In the final hour, the show also features some more traditional dance music, such as electro & progressive house.
The new soundtrack to your Saturday nights has arrived. Discover what listeners from around the world are tuning in to enjoy when you take your DEPARTURE each week... live, or through the weekly podcasts.
Having trouble playing or downloading a podcast from the website? Desire a higher-quality music stream? Want a peek into music I like, as I discover it?
I've used the music website SoundCloud to create an alternate site for listeners who are fellow audiophiles, and prefer their music at a higher bit rate (kbps). If you want to download the show, however, this site & the iTunes Music Store (linked below) are the places to be.
While visiting my SoundCloud page, you'll also be able to see songs I've reposted and favorited from various artists, DJs & remixers--some of whom are very likely to make it on the show in the near future.
I've used SoundCloud's sharing functionality to give you access to recent episodes on this very page, but for the complete DEPARTURE catalog and some of my favorite songs, check out the link below!

With one of the best shows to date, the August 9th installment of DEPARTURE on KX 93.5 started with a 90-second re-imagination of The Beach Boys before it launched into the huge new single from The Knocks. This show also includes new jams from Porter Robinson, Say Lou Lou, Years & Years, Autograf (covering Swedish House Mafia, Fantastic Fantastic, Frankmusik remixed by Los Angeles' own Ride The Universe, a remix of Zella Day, as well as the huge new single by Dillon Francis, Sultan + Ned Shepard and Chain Gang of 1974.
A dynamic DEPARTURE not to be missed!
The 3rd hour of this DEPARTURE broadcast started things on a moody note with ZHU's haunting remix of Lana Del Rey's "Ultraviolence" and the debut single from Slaptop. From there, the 2nd half of the show visits new music from POMO, Anna Lunoe, SNBRN, Stonebank, and Zak Water's surprisingly awesome cover of Ginuwine's raunchy 90s pop hit "Pony".
Also be on the lookout for remixes of Youngblood Hawke, Ellie Goulding, Foster The People, Clean Bandit, London Grammar, Flo Rida and many more!
The June 21st edition of DEPARTURE on KX 93.5 was a fun and unique episode from start to finish. KX 93.5's own Tyler Russell joins me live from the opening celebration at The Soul Project in Laguna Beach, and Laguna gets in on the action with lots of request to keep things feeling lively during DEPARTURE's first 2 hours.
This podcast contains new music from Dan Croll, Kiesza, Bag Raiders, Blonde & Duke Dumont, as well as new remixes from favorites like RAC, Star Slinger, Autograf, The Soundmen, Yuksek, JackLNDN & Tobtok!
Full playlist will be available on August 2, when the 2nd half of the show goes online!
