It was originally a marketing term for a broad spectrum of musical styles that didn’t fit into the mainstream radio genres; debate still rages as to what kind of music it actually describes. Many other names are thrown around: roots music, alt/country, country/rock, but as time goes on, the Americana genre, being ever inclusive, also celebrates music influenced by blues, bluegrass, folk, soul, R&B and rock.
