Gris Gris – Ya Ya…. A Fuzz Tribute To Dr. John

Underground tribute hour to the late Dr. John, aka Mac Rebbenack

Man! First Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators aka Godfather of Psych Rock) and now Dr. John aka The Night Tripper aka Snake Shannon aka Doc Profisari aka Bishop… Our music world lost a few heavy greats this past week to say the least. This week’s episode is dedicated to the swampy bayou Nawlins staple, Dr. John. A musician that started out as a guitarist, but later became one of the most legendary and iconic piano and organ players of the south, due in no small part to getting his finger blown off in a bar fight and forced to do some prison time. That’s much too quick of a bio to one of the greats and how he got his start, but this is a podcast, so I’ll let the music do the talking… Dr. John, aka Mac Rebennack, embodied the New Orleans sound, inspired countless other legends, and brought to the forefront a unique crew of musicians and artists the world had never heard before. Here’s some standout tracks I dig to bring you up to speed on how rad this dude was… I hope you enjoy, and if you do, I highly recommend grabbing his stuff on vinyl, it really makes a world of a difference and will transport you straight into his swamp…
